PITTSBURG, CA Monday, August 1, 2008: Overall, 16 students and 6 adults attended the impressive and exhilarating 21st annual FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon July 25-27, 2008.
"Thanks to our community this weekend welcomes our students to yet another different sport and exposes them to its corporate and competition aspects," said Dario Arredondo, Director of Bay Area Soccer Academy (BASA). "We introduce these talented young students to key players in the NHRA industry to kick-start their understanding of the importance of social skills; teamwork, honesty, pride, personal accountability and discipline."
NHRA and Infineon treated us to entertainment that took to the sky and land before the Christmas Tree lights started the race performances. We took all of the exciting action!
"Thanks to the support of our business community we had a great time again! We all enjoyed the air show and pre-race entertainment followed by the FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals. The sport of racing is fun, lots of fun. It learned the importance of precision, the importance to detail to be able to win at anything. I want to comeback every year." said Louie P. Davis, BASA student.
Students got to see first hand INFINEON offices, INFINEON and NHRA sponsors, licensees, teams, tracks and broadcast partners.
Consistent with our soccer programs, NHRA and Infineon have created a family environment that is safe and promote stable relationships between children and adults, and among children themselves. A social event for the entire family!
CAREFUL DESIGN donated tickets and transportation for all attending.
LA AURORA MARKET donated 1 case of Bottled Water, ice, and lunch for all attending,
BAY AREA SOCCER ACADEMY (BASA) donated Pizzas and Transportation.
Thank you Family, Friends, Fans and Supporters!
Robert Hight of John Force Racing won the Funny Car Class, defeating surprise finalist Gary Densham, 61.
Hight, from Oakdale, also remembered coming to the track as a youth. He never dreamed of racing, hoping to one day get a job on a drag team wiping tires or being a go-fer.
Hight, who won for the second time this season, said maybe he wouldn’t be driving if he weren’t John Force’s son-in-law, but he’s still thrilled to be connected with the sport.
Hight dedicated the win to Eric Medlin, who won at Infineon two years ago and last year was killed while testing at a Florida track. Medlin was also from Oakdale and a John Force teammate.
More than 2,000 race fans attended the second "Eric Medlen Ice Cream Social" at Infineon Raceway on Sunday following the FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals.
The fans not only ate their favorite ice cream, but they also donated to the Eric Medlen Scholarship Fund. The total will be matched by Infineon Raceway and the sum, will be awarded to the winner of Infineon Raceway's high school bracket drag division in Medlen's name.
Medlen, who succumbed in March to injuries sustained from an accident during a testing session at Gainesville (Fla.), was a lover of ice cream, a well-known fact in the industry. To honor his memory, Infineon Raceway hosted the ice cream social, which took place on the road course following final eliminations. All ice cream was donated by Dreyer's Ice Cream.
More than 40 people helped scoop the ice cream for the race fans. Top Fuel driver Morgan Lucas also helped scoop, as did other NHRA drivers/riders.
